A funny thing happened on the way out of the Podiatrists office...

So there I was, leaving the foot and ankle Dr's office, my daughter just getting the all clear to not have to wear her boot anymore (she had broken her foot at the end of August)....when I step forward expecting it to be flat like the pavement 2 feet to my left - and I step off a curb and fall forward.... ow!!! I thought I had twisted my ankle but the pain was pretty bad... turns out I fractured the bone over the arch and tore the tendon that supports the arch.....and it's on to surgery to repair it tomorrow.... 2 weeks off work and 8 weeks in a cast!!!

Spel Chekc is gud

In my current job, I inherited some seriously bad apps...I mean these are the apps that inspire users to espouse the evils of Lotus Notes. Honestly, if you aren't familiar with Notes and you come into a company and get stuck using one of these apps, it will make you biased. Which is sad, because Notes is very powerful and can do some really great stuff, but in the hands of a rogue developer....{shudder}

I try to make my apps as user friendly as possible - one of my "heros" in the Notes Dev world is Chris Blatnick over at Interface Matters. He's done some really cool stuff.

So back to these applications..... as I go through having to fix them (not only are they ugly to look at but the code has some scary stuff going on) I started to notice the typos.

Now at first I thought well, English wasn't the first language of the previous developer ...but I noticed it wasn't phonetic spelling, (as if trying to sound out the word) and the same word would be spelled correctly else where in the app - often in the same area...now, we're all prone to typos, I mean I get typing and the brain goes faster than the fingers...but I'm inclined to ..oh I don't know.....PROOF READ or USE SPELL CHECK !?.... so I could only conclude one thing.... this guy was lazy! So now I was inspired... time to write a quick app to track the typos!
(Yes, I like to write apps to track things....)

Here are some gems (first two with screen captures to give you an idea of what I mean):

My car (well it will be....)

ahhh..... {drool} this will be mine....oh yes.....

BTW... this is hosted on my 2bdot.com site....... :-)

Yet another move...

Yes.... heard it through the grapevine that I may be moving cubicles YET AGAIN!.....So this would be cube number 6 within a year....

Does it serve any real purpose? NO! Does it increase productivity?? NO! Am I changing departments? NO!

There is no logic to it at all, except that people who are paid more than me are making these decisions. Hmmmmm need to ponder on that one.....(read with a sarcastic tone)

What we need is this:

No Packing up your crap,...just fold and go! Genius!

Dude....?

In the IT dept that I work in, they have a high need to shuffle us around on a fairly regular basis. I've been here for 1 year and 2 months and have been in 5 different cubes. It makes cube decorating tedious! But here is what makes things interesting where I sit right now. There is a guy that sits near by that likes the word "Dude", a lot. A LOT.

Every story starts with "Dude...." then is peppered with "seriously, dude... it was awesome dude..." "no, really dude!"

Being a developer who is always looking for something entertaining to code, I decided we needed to track the number of "dudes" each day.... so I wrote a little Notes app called "The Daily Dude". Hmmmm...maybe I'll enhance it with some charting.....

a Note about Video Blogging....

In my second post from last year I mentioned that I wrote an application for IPcelerate. I'm no longer doing work for them and have built my own hosted Video Blogging solution that I am trying to get off the ground. It's called 2bdot.com. It is written in Lotus Domino (of course!). I invite you to check it out! It's meant to be a tool for businesses. It is still in the release 1.0 /beta phase so there will be lots of new features added.

Time for some changes around here....

Ok, so as you can see by the dates of the last two postings, I haven't kept up with this blog...well, I've decided to reveamp the theme a little...
There will be postings that may be Lotus Notes related, but I think I'll focus mainly on life of the cube dweller.....I would like my blog to be entertaining... and lord knows, spending 8 hours a day in a cubicle surrounded by interesting characters can provide plenty of material! So here goes....!
